BCCI Conducts Professional Development Seminars For Women Coaches

NCA In Its Quest For Excellence Very Recently Concluded A Seven-Week Series Of CPD:

In its search for excellence, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has recently concluded a seven-week series of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) seminars for women coaches across the country. The NCA’s Coach Education department, headed by Sujith Somasundar and assisted by Atul Gaikwad, Apurva Desai and Rajib Dutta, conducted a first of its kind initiative.

Twenty-Four BCCI Level 2 accredited coaches and former BCCI Level 1 accredited Indian cricketers were part of the seminar. Skill acquisition, modern coaching principles, the art and science of fast bowling, the creation of productive learning environments, etc., were some of the subjects discussed.

“In India, women’s cricket is on the rise and in the last couple of ICC tournaments, our women’s team has done extremely well. India is seeing a lot of young talent coming from all parts of the country. The efforts of NCA to develop and cultivate the skills of women coaches are appreciated. I would like to thank the NCA team led by Rahul for taking this initiative,” BCCI President So So,

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah added that the board is committed to strengthening the women’s cricket in the country.

“BCCI is committed to improving women’s cricket in India and one more step in this direction is CPD. It is important that coaches who train girls across India are in touch with the latest coaching concepts and manuals. The lockdown has forced us to remain indoors and through its National Cricket Academy (NCA), the BCCI has used this period in skill development through online seminars.”

NCA head Rahul Dravid feels that the seminar will support women coaches in their development.

Women’s cricket has been rising at a very rapid pace and one of the BCCI ‘s priorities is to continue to help our women coaches in their growth. Although the pandemic has presented some challenges, I believe our education department has still been well utilised for the last seven weeks to interact with some of the women coaches, work with them and help them in their continuous development pursuit.
