Bangladesh Updates Squad Ahead of T20 WC 2022 After Losing 4 Matches in a Row

Bangladesh Updated Squad: Soumya Sarkar and Shoriful Islam replace Mohammad Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman on Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup roster. All four individuals were a part of the Bangladeshi squad that was part of the T20 Tri-series in New Zealand.

Selection Criteria

Despite losing all four games, technical advisor Sridharan Sriram believed that there were benefits. Given that Soumya and Shoriful’s performance was somewhat superior than the other two. The duo will now travel home from Christchurch. Their selection in the T20 World Cup team was inevitable.

Team director Khaled Mahmud and captain Shakib Al Hasan chose Soumya based on his 23 and 4 runs score. Since a dismal performance in the T20 World Cup last year, Soumya had not been selected for Bangladesh in any format. In the BPL at this break in the previous season, he scored 164 runs with a strike rate of 109.33.

Who is out?

Saifuddin, who hasn’t been able to perform to his full ability since making a comeback in the Asia Cup in late August, was also sacrificed by Bangladesh. They have no other pace-bowling all-rounders in the team. Shoriful takes his position even after underwhelming performance recently. He will bowl with Mustafizur Rahman, another fast bowler who has been struggling with form.

Bangladesh is struggling to form a good bowling attack. They have players with talent but they don’t look good together as a team.

What Management Said?

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin says to reporters on Friday. “Before the start of the Asia Cup, our consultant had a plan to fit a player in a specific position. For this reason, there was a plan to play Sabbir up in the order,”

“The responsibility of a player is the most crucial thing. T20 is such a short game that you can’t take your eyes off it. You need to be conscious because overs finish so fast here. Self assessment is very important here.”

“Saifuddin has been struggling for a lot of days. He sustained an injury during the last World Cup. He returned to domestic cricket but he was not fit. Thus couldn’t go to West Indies due to a back injury… But overall, we are disappointed with his performance,” he added.

Bangladesh begins its campaign in Hobart on October 24. The Bangladesh T20 World Cup team will play two exhibition matches against Afghanistan and South Africa in Brisbane. These matches will be played on October 17 and 19.
