Australia Innings

West Indies made a comeback in the final three overs, conceding just 21 runs as Australia totaled 178. But Warner, who batted first, played a brilliant innings full of timing and boundary hits. While he battled with timing, those around him managed to escape, giving West Indies the openings they required to turn the tide.

However, Tim David made a stunning cameo of 42 off 20 balls, including a thunderous drive to deep mid-wicket of The Gabba. He did, however, miss a low full-toss, which allowed West Indies to hold Australia under 200, which was a serious possibility given how well David was playing.

West Indies Innings

West Indies consistently does this; they restrain their power-hitters and for the asking rate to rise. Occasionally, their power-hitters come to their rescue, but more often than not, they are left with an overwhelming amount of work. Although West Indies may have chased this score, they were never really competitive. King could only make a brief appearance, and Charles continued to suffer.

Their teamwork was what made the difference. Despite their best efforts, Hosein and Powell still had a lot of work to do. The top bowler for Australia was Starc, who had his best T20I bowling numbers of 4/20. The rest of them stood by him admirably, and they successfully held a par total.

What the Captains said

Aaron Finch, the winning captain said, “The difference in the game was Davey and Tim David with the bat on a wicket that had its challenges. You are always learning, there is a method to everything that we do and it is not just you come out and change something on that particular day. There will be challenges (in the England series), few guys are flying out, a few guys are staying behind and it is about managing ourselves before the World Cup.”

Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies captain. Says “Tough to lose. They played better cricket than us. Our bowlers did well to pull them back and keep them to below 180. The batsmen got starts but did not convert and we lost wickets in the middle overs. An important week coming up for us. As a group we are understanding how to play in these conditions and are playing like a team. By the time of the World Cup Qualifiers we will be ready.”
