Australia Tour Of New Zealand Postponed Due To COVID-19 Restrictions

The Australian tour to New Zealand, which was scheduled to start in March, has been officially canceled. The decision to cancel the series between the two Trans-Tasman opponents was made with border limitations and quarantine restrictions in view. Here Is Australia Tour Of New Zealand Postponed.

The three-match T20I series was arranged in response to the New Zealand government’s efforts to relax border regulations across the border. The two boards, Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket, decided to postpone the series since the Government’s preparations had been stopped in its tracks. Additionally, there were no Mandatory Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) venues available to accommodate the Australian team when they arrived in New Zealand on time.

It’s disappointing but we know it’s the same for businesses: NZC CEO

NZC CEO David White confirmed that the gateway was supposed to be opened during Australia’s planned visit. Due to the Omicron variant, he believes it is unlikely to be the case now.

“At the time we scheduled the visit there was a lot of hope that the trans-Tasman border would be open for those who met the right criteria. However, the advent of Omicron has, unfortunately, changed everything at the border, and has made it impossible for us to continue with the series,” David White said.

“It’s disappointing – but we know it’s the same for businesses and individuals and other sports, and we’re grateful for the international schedule we have,” he added.

The Australian men’s squad will next be back in competition on February 11 in a 5-match T20I series versus Sri Lanka at home. The series will begin at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Despite winning the World Cup in November last year, Aaron Finch and his side will contest their 1st T20I series.
