With a 4-0 victory, Australia destroyed England and retained the Ashes. The Pat Cummins-led team dominated all through the series, with England having few good moments. However, they looked terrific in the 5th and final Test in Hobart, even putting the Aussies in trouble to some level.

Unfortunately, their batsmen collapsed once more, and they were defeated by 146 runs in the final Test. England had an opportunity to conclude the disappointing series on a positive note in Hobart, where they required 271 runs to win the Day-Night match. The Three Lions appeared to be on course at 60/0. The remainder of the batting order, on the other hand, seemed lacking any form of fight.

As an outcome, Joe Root’s team were bowled out for 124, and they lost another Test versus their archrivals. In terms of how Day 3 of the competition played out, Australia began the day at 37/3, with a 152-run lead. As the surface worsened over time, Australian hitters struggled in the opening session. Mark Wood seemed to be England’s asset with the red cherry in hand.

He received six wickets as Australia were bowled out for 155 in their 2nd innings. The hosts, on the other hand, stormed out to a 115-run lead in the 1st inning. As a result, the visitors were tasked with hunting down 271 in order to win. Whereas a victory for England wasn’t in the cards, they did make an outstanding push to the hunt.

Certainly feels like we are on to something big: Cummins

As the game heated up, starters Rory Burns and Zak Crawley scored 68 runs for the 1st wicket. Eventually, Pat Cummins, Scott Boland, and Cameron Green each received 3 wickets to help their team over the finish line. Cummins was happy with the series victory.

“Really is (stuff of dreams). Pretty crazy. To be at the end of a 5-match series with so many positives and 4-0, yeah really pumped. I am really happy as a captain, not sure if he (smiles, on not having to bowl Lyon in the entire game). We have had some 15 players used in this series, some tough calls. Certainly feels like we are on to something big,” said Cummins after the game.
