Australia Likely To Play Five Test Series Against India

Cricket Australia Chief Hints At Conducting The Test Series Against India:

Kevin Roberts, CEO of Cricket Australia, shared the Board’s desire to host a five-test series later this year against India. India’s Australia tour currently consists of four Tests and three ODIs, but Roberts indicated that an additional Test could take place in the series when Virat Kohli and the company reach Australia in November.

Roberts said a five-test series is a possibility, but not a certainty at this point, for having a close relationship with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

“There’s no certainty for that (five-Test series) for the upcoming season, but what I can say is that the BCCI and Cricket Australia have a very strong relationship,” Roberts said during the video call to reporters.

“We’ve discussed a shared desire to evolve to the five-Test series between Australia and India in the future.”

“It’s something that we’ve all committed to in the future in principle, the real question is whether or not we can get that in before the next phase of the tour in 2023.”

“We don’t know what the likelihood of the next season is, but definitely with a shifting landscape … we won’t rule out the possibility until we get closer to the time,” he said.

Roberts also confirmed that the board is looking to host all matches in a single venue in their effort to keep players and staff safe in the midst of coronavirus pandemics.

“In terms of the Indian series we are not going to rule anything out. We want to stage, along with the BCCI and Indian players, a series that inspires the Cricketing World, whether or not there are people in the stands” Roberts said.

“We have to face up every possibility. Luckily we have a bit of time to work out the scenarios, “he said.

The cancellation of the Test series against India could potentially cost up to $300 million in loss from the TV revenue.
