Australia thrash England by 221 runs in 3rd ODI to complete clean sweep

AUS VS ENG 3rd ODI match highlights: Australia registered a comprehensive 221-run win over England in the third and final ODI to complete clean sweep at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Chasing the target of 356 runs, England batters found it hard to even cross 150-run mark and lost the game by 221 runs. The leggie, Adam Zampa starred with bowl for Australia as he once again bagged 4 wickets in the game and ended the series as highest-wicket taker.

Earlier, Australian openers starred with the bat as David Warner and Travis Head recorded 269 runs for the first wicket to help the Aussies post 355 runs on board. Both openers hit centuries in the process.

Invited to bat, Australian batters make the most of the opportunity and were unstoppable in their approach.

The Australian crush every English bowler in their and continued to rule the game.

They were just flawless and soon scored centuries. Head was the aggressor in the partnership.

Warner and Head recorded record 269 for the first wicket before Warner got caught at deep mid-wicket when he failed to connect the length ball of Olly Stone.

He played a knock of 106 off 102 with the help of eight fours and two sixes. Stone then removed another set batter Travis Head in the same over for 152.

It was Warner’s nineteenth and Head’s third hundred in ODI cricket. He walked back after scoring 152. He struck sixteen fours and four sixes in the process. This marked as the ninth highest partnership in the list of highest partnership for first wicket in ODIs.

Interestingly, the highest partnership record for Australia was also recorded by David Warner and Travis Heat. Their best partnership score till date is 284 versus Pakistan in 2017.

The hosts were at 270 for 2 in 38.4 overs, but soon the game was cut short to 48 overs due to rain.

Smith (21 off) and Stoinis (12 off) got out cheaply while trying to score quick runs. However, he other batters did good job to guide their side to 355 in 48 overs. The revised target was 364 according to DLS method.

Mitchell Marsh was handy during the final overs and recorded 30 off 16. Wicketkeeper Carey shot not out 12 in 6 balls. While Marnus Labuschagne struck 8 runs off the final four balls of the Australian innings.

Olly Stone bagged the most number of wickets for England. But he leaked the most runs too among all. He conceded 85 runs in his 10 overs. Apart from him, Liam Dawson is the only bowler, who managed to get a wicket.

England to chase 364 runs in 48 overs

The English side seen clueless in the mammoth run-chase game and pressure was clearly visible on each batter’s face.

The highest recorded partnership in their innings was of 42 runs, which is enough to tell the whole story how they failed badly to chase the target.

Jason Roy (33) scored the most runs for his side. Apart from him James Vince scored 22, while other batters failed to touch even the 20-run mark as a result they lost the game by 221 runs and the series by 3-0.

Travis Head scored the most runs in the three-match ODI series between Australia and England. He scored 240 runs in 3 games, including a spectacular century, his highest score in the series was 152. He made all his runs while maintain a good strike rate of 111.63.

The leg spinner of Australia, Adam Zampa, bagged the most number of wickets in the series. He was unplayable in every game having dismissed 3, 4, and 4 batters respectively.
