AU-W vs SA-W Highlights: Australia women’s cricket team maintained their dominance in world cricket by claiming yet another T20 World Cup title after beating South Africa by 19 runs at the Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday.
It was Australia’s sixth Women’s T20 World Cup title out of 8 tournaments, having won it before in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, clearly displayed their stature in world cricket.
Like expected, Australia remained unbeaten in the tournament, having topped the group standings with 4 in 4 wins and then defeating India in the nail-biting semi-final match by 5 runs on Friday.
The women in yellow posted 156 on board in their 20-over quota, thanks to Beth Mooney’s splendid not out knock of 74 in 53 balls. Their bowlers then restricted the South African side to 137 to help the Aussies win their sixth T20 World Cup title.
Laura Wolvaardt, the opening batter of South Africa, tried extremely hard and played a knock of 61 in 48 balls, but it wasn’t enough South Africa help win the cup.

Opting to bat, Australia started their campaign in an expected aggressive manner, with both the openers didn’t let the bowlers to grip them.
They in no time crossed 35-run mark, but Healy lost her touch and got caught at covers for 18.
Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Garnder then did a decent partnership of 45 in 41 deliveries to put the Aussies in good position. Garnder, however, walked back after scoring 29 off 21, but Mooney remained tall at the crease.
Wickets were kept on falling from the other end, but Mooney didn’t lose her calm and continued to collect runs in her style of play.
The stylish left-handed batter played the full 20 overs and scored 74 off 53 balls to help her side put 156 on board during the night of finals.
Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp bagged 2-2 wicket each for South Africa. While Nonkululeko Mlaba and Chloe Tyron also took 1-1.

In reply, South Africa faced some heat during the initial overs, as the Australian bowlers didn’t allow them to secure the runs freely.
Laura Wolvaardt, however managed to record runs on a steady pace, while wickets were fallen from the other end.
Tazmin Brits (10), Marizanne Kapp (11), and Sune Luss (2), walked back early.
Wolvaardt kept the scoreboard tickling and completed her half-century in the process.
With 104 for 3 in 16 overs, the host’s South Africa required 53 in the final 4 overs, and Wolvaardt and Tyron at the crease, the target was tough but looking manageable.
But the experienced Megan Schutt removed the set Wolvaardt for 61 to provide a shock to the opposition’s camp. Jonassen then dismissed Tyron (25 off 23 balls) in the next over to help her side gain the adavntage and as a result Australia claimed the victory by 19 runs.
