Ashish Nehra Feels ‘Surprised’ As Bumrah Returns To Team India

Former India Ace bowler Ashish Nehra feels surprised by Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to the team for the impending India vs Sri Lanka T20I series. Jasprit Bumrah, who has been sidelined during India’s recently concluded ODI and T20I series versus the West Indies, will play in the 3 T20Is and 3 Tests versus Sri Lanka. Here is why Ashish Nehra Feels ‘Surprised On Bumrah Returns.

Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability, a handful of other pace bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Deepak Chahar, were given sufficient opportunity to demonstrate their bowling prowess in the limited-overs against the West Indies. Avesh Khan made his international T20I debut, whereas Harshal Patel was impressed with his bowling outings.

Ashish Nehra mentioned in a conversation that Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback to the team in the Sri Lanka T20I series astonished him. Many other players will be missing on the slot so now Jasprit Bumrah has been added to the Playing XI.

One of these players will have to miss the spot: Ashish Nehra

“I am very surprised that [Jasprit] Bumrah is playing in this T20Is. Every player wants to play, no doubt, but we have two Tests following this series as well. There are many matches to come. We have so many options among fast bowlers and a significant number of them need game time and confidence,” said Ashish Nehra.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, for example, need more game time. The moment Bumrah returns to the XI, one of these players will have to miss the spot. So I’m surprised that he is playing here,” Ashish Nehra added.

Three Twenty20 Internationals and two Tests are set for India and Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma will lead India in both series, with Jasprit Bumrah serving as his deputy. The T20I series will be without big names like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, and Suryakumar Yadav

The 3 Twenty20 International matches will take place on February 24, 26, and 27. The first Test involving India and Sri Lanka will be held from March 4 – 8, whereas the second test will be held from March 12 – 16.
