Are India Now A Pace Heavy Bowling Unit As Compared To Spin?

Those who have followed Indian Cricket closely for many years, know that India has always been dependent on their spinners to deliver results not just at home but even overseas and this is one thing which had let them down many times.

Not that they lacked pace bowling stars, we often had pacers like Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, and Zaheer Khan to deliver the good but the problem lied with the supporting cast who were very few and far in between.

India often lost test matches or failed to close out the ones which they should have won owing to the lack of bite in the pace bowling department.

But once Virat Kohli was handed over the test match captaincy, he slowly started giving more confidence to his fast bowlers. He built them up to overcome challenges both home and away.

His belief in having a strong group of pace bowlers reflects from the numbers which suggest in recent times, it’s the pacers who have called the shots for the team more often than not. They have set up games in places like South Africa, England and, Australia.

The coming together of talents like Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Navdeep Saini is not coincidental, rather it is the execution of some meticulous planning both on-field and off-field too. With such a crop of pacers who can pick up 20 wickets anywhere in the the world, the future certainly looks bright for Indian Cricket.
