All Matches Of Lanka Premier League To Be Played In Hambantota

The Lanka Premier League Will Now Be Held From November 27 to December 17, 2020:

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced it has rescheduled the Lanka Premier League. The tournament is now scheduled to take place from 27 November to 17 December 2020 and will be played at MRICS, Hambantota only.

Following several rounds of meetings Sri Lanka Cricket had with the health ministry officials, the most recent revision, both at the start date and at the venue, was affected. Therefore, the government today gave its approval to continue the tournament, subject to strict and strict health guidelines to be followed during the tournament.

“Holding the tournament in Hambantota and in one venue enhances our plan to set up and maintain an effective Bio-Secure Bubble, and with the government’s approval, we are now confident that the tournament will continue,” said Ravin Wickramaratne, Sri Lanka Cricket’s Vice President and LPL’s Tournament Director.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) thanked the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Honorable (Mrs.) Pavithra Wanniarachchi, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, and the Honorable Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, for extending their support for the tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket would also like to thank Lieutenant General Shavendra De Silva, Head of Task Force Covid-19, Major General (Dr.) Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, for extending their support to the organisation of the tournament.

These are difficult times and the best possible solution has been put forward by the Sri Lankan Government and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and I am grateful to all those involved in these discussions over the past few days. It wasn’t easy, but I believe this is the best decision to keep in mind the well-being of Sri Lankan cricket and the people of Sri Lanka,’ said Anil Mohan, CEO of IPG, the promoters of LPL, based in Dubai.

According to the latest plan, the revised new schedule of the tournament will be announced shortly.
