The Sri Lankan all-rounder Akila Dananjaya was suspended from bowling in international matches after his bowling action was deemed to be illegal in December 2018. However, he remodeled his action and was cleared by the International Cricket Council in February 2019. In spite of this, he was not selected in the ODI World Cup squad.
In the World Cup 2019, Sri Lanka failed to be in the semi-finals as it was spotted at sixth position in the points table. However, Dananjaya has been picked in the side as the specialist spinner for the three-match ODI series.
Apart from Dananjaya, the Sri Lanka selectors named Shehan Jayasuriya, Lahiru Kumara, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka in their 17-man squad.
Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka or Lakshan Sandakan were not selected into the squad as the selectors made five changes to the World Cup squad.
