After Pakistan’s T20I Series Loss In Australia, Sarfaraz Ahmed Gives His Take On Babar Azam’s Captaincy

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former cricketer of Pakistan, was sacked as the captain of the national side. Because of his poor performances and failure as the captain, Sarfaraz was replaced by Azhar Ali. Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the captaincy to Azhar Ali. Meanwhile, Babar Azam was appointed as the new T20I skipper.

Many criticized PCB for their decision of sacking Sarfaraz Ahmed. Some agreed with the move to appoint Babar his successor as the talented right-hander remains the best performer for the Men in Green in the shortest format of the game. In the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia, Pakistan was thrashed 2-0 under Babar Azam.

Recently in an interview, a reporter asked Sarfaraz Ahmed about Babar Azam.”Babar is new to the job and my message for all is that we need to support him as much as possible. He is a young captain & he has a young team with him and it’s not easy for a young captain to go to a tough place and fight against a strong team.”

Australia defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the second T20I after the opener was washed out due to rain.

Many criticized Babar’s credentials as the captain. And questions were raised about the head coach Misbah-ul-Haq’s selection policy. On the other hand, Sarfaraz has been asked to make a comeback to the Pakistan team. The former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed said he has no regrets about losing captaincy and wished Babar luck for the future.

Pakistan’s former skipper said, “Wasim Khan drove from Lahore to come and tell me about the PCB’s decision to remove me as the captain. I thanked him and said its fine sir, you have done what you think is best for Pakistan,”

Sarfaraz concluded by saying, “There is nothing to regret about it (losing captaincy). I tried to win as many matches for Pakistan as I could during my time as captain. PCB picked who they thought will lead the side in a better way in the future and I hope Babar brings more glory to the nation.”
