The former Indian Capitan Rahul Dravid is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy(NCA) who have joined very recently in the month of July. After his cricketing career, he has been into the India Cements group as vice-president.
It has been a month or so that he started into NCA, got a notice from BCCI’s ethics Officer on specific Conflict of Interest allegations leveled against him. BCCI’s Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer Justice DK Jain has sent a notice after receiving a complaint from Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association life member Sanjeev Gupta.
According to Gupta, Dravid is allegedly conflicted as he is the NCA Director and also employed as vice-president of India Cements group, which owns IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.
“Yes, I have sent a notice to Mr. Rahul Dravid last week after receiving a complaint. He has been given two weeks to reply to the allegations of Conflict of Interest. Based on his reply, I will decide whether to proceed further or not,” – Justice DK Jain said.
Dravid is expected to file his reply by August 16 and has to appear for hearing if Justice DK Jain considers it as important.
Dravid was not the first person to be filed against Gupta, there were many other cricketers who received complaints against them. There was a similar kind of Conflict of Interest complaints against Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman who were working in both the fields as Cricket Advisory Committee member as well as mentor or icon of their respective IPL franchises, Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad.
Both the cricketers had refused the conflicts filed by Gupta. However, Sachin Tendulkar made a note in his affidavit that he didn’t take a penny for the Mumbai Indians for his service. Tendulkar later told that he won’t be likely to continue unless he had given a term of reference.
VVS Laxman in his reply said that if his role as a mentor is conflicted than he is ready to quit the responsibilities as a CAC member.
Sourav Ganguly was another person who has faced the same conflict of interest allegation leveled for being the CAB president as well as the mentor of Delhi Capitals.
Ganguly expressed his displeasure after Rahul Dravid for the notice issued by the BCCI on Conflict of Interest allegations against him.
“God helps Indian Cricket”- Sourav Ganguly said.
“New fashion in Indian cricket …..conflict of interest…Best way to remain in news …god help Indian cricket ……Dravid Gets Conflict of Interest Notice from BCCI Ethics Officer,” -Ganguly tweeted.
