5 Interesting Rules That Should Be Implemented In IPL 2021

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 was one of the most competitive seasons of all time. We didn’t know the top 4 teams until the last league game was played. The excitement was doubled last season as fans got to witness a double super over for the first time. While we even got to witness two super over games in a single day. The Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21 had a plethora of new rules implemented in the latest season. We wonder how exciting IPL will be if there are a few new rules implemented in the 14th edition (IPL 2021).

#5 Power Surge

Power Surge is essentially a two-over period where only two players of the fielding side are allowed outside the thirty-yard circle. It is an improvised version of the powerplay. The batting team can opt for Power Surge from the 11th over of their innings. The rest of the rules are the same as those of an original powerplay. But this 2 over window can decisively turn a game on its head.

#4 X-Factor

An X-Factor player is named as either the 12th or 13th player on the team sheet. The said player will inject momentum into the innings either while batting or bowling. An X-factor can come into the game beyond the 10th over of the first innings and replace any player who is yet to bat. The same is applicable for the bowling side too, as an X-Factor bowler can be used by the fielding side!

#3 Fatigue Replacement

Teams no longer need to carry a player who is feeling tired or struggling owing to health issues. The said player can be replaced as per the fatigue replacement rule. This will ensure that no team has tired players in their line-up.

#2 Bonus point

The BCCI can look forward to award some points who are ahead of their opposition during the second innings. This will sort out the complicated Net Run Rate rule which at times robs a well-deserving team a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

#1 Five overseas players in the playing XI

There have been many teams who have been handicapped owing to the restriction of 4 foreigners in the playing XI. The rule of allowing five players in the playing XI can liberate many teams and allow them to play their best combination.
