India vs South Africa’s first match in Vizag broke the world record in a Test Match. After hitting Ravindra Jadeja for a maximum in the 35th over, Dane Piedt recorded the historic 36th six in the Vizag Test.

The previous record in tests for most sixes came in 2014-15 when the Sharjah match between Pakistan and New Zealand registered a total of 35. Twin century scorer Rohit Sharma (13) hit most of the sixes in this match among the individual contributors.

In their first innings, India had struck 13 sixes while South Africa had added seven. India hit 14 maximums in the second innings, while so far South Africa has managed just three sixes.

India won the first Vizag Test, taking a lead of 1-0 in the sequence of three matches.

A victory in the Vizag Test meant that India started its World Test Championship home leg with a win. After clean sweeping the away series against the West Indies, they maintained a 100% record in the World Test championship.

The final two tests will be held in Pune and Ranchi between India and South Africa serially.
