This Day, That Year: Tendulkar’s Role In Beating Pakistan In World Cup Semi-Finals,2011

Sachin Tendulkar Helped India To Beat Pakistan In 2011 World Cup Semi-Final:

In the year 2011, on this day (30-03-2011), team India beat its rival country Pakistan in the semi-final match of the ICC World Cup and reach the final of the tournament.

In this match, Master- blaster Sachin Tendulkar played a tremendous inning, but only because Pakistan couldn’t dismiss four times and gave him lives. It was a match where Wahab Riaz,  left-arm fast bowler of Pakistan endangered to knock over batting lineup of the team India.

But, finally, India recorded their fifth time win over Pakistan team in World Cup.

Let’s Go To That Day:

The match was held in Mohali. India won the toss and elected to bat first. Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar came for opening the batting. Both the batsman had a spectacular start but Virendra Sehwag dismissed by Wahab Riaz by scoring 38 runs 25 balls.

Tendulkar continued his outstanding batting and scored 85 runs. His luck also favoured him a lot as Pakistan missed to dismiss him four times.

No other batsman other than Sachin could make a big score and the team India managed to score 260 runs.

The bowlers of India never let the Pakistan team into the game. All the five bowlers took two wickets each and the Shahid- Afridi led Pakistan team fell short of the score of India by 29 runs.

The openers of Pakistan Asad Shafiq and Mohammed Hafeez made a good start but couldn’t start for a long time.  Misbah-ul-Haq scored 56 runs but it was too late.

The interesting thing is that it was the fifth time when India and Pakistan met in the World Cup and Sachin Tendulkar had played all these five matches.

In the final match, India beat Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and won the World Cup title for the second time after 1983.
