Justin Langer Calls For Closed Door Cricket Matches

Australian Cricket team coach Justin Langer called for closed-door cricket matches, even after the lockdown due to pandemic.

This would not only give the fans to rejoice as cricket would resume, but it would provide a safe environment, for the game to take place and for the fans to enjoy the game.

“When cricket started, there were no crowds, and most of the fans who are a part of today’s crowd were not even born,” said Langer to a leading sports website.

Matches Suspended Amidst Coronavirus Scare:

Amidst increasing scare of the spread of coronavirus infection, all the cricket boards had earlier suspended national, international and domestic cricket league, as mass gatherings trigger the spread of coronavirus infection.

“You loved playing the game with your mates, and entertain people through TV sets, radio channels through commentaries and many other modes. Hence, the concept of playing çlosed door cricket would not make much difference, rather it would give an opportunity to fans who have been related to the game for long now, to revive their memories” said Justin Langer, stressing on having closed-door Cricket.

The initiative of letting the game being conducted behind closed doors would not only enable the players to get adapted to all forms of the environment to play the game, but it would also enable the boards and the management to assess the mental strength of the players.

There were speculations that the 13th edition of IPL 2020 would take place behind closed doors or in empty stadiums. However, with the steep rise in the spread of coronavirus infection, the tournament was suspended till 15th April. BCCI Chief in a recent media statement hinted at the tournament to be a truncated affair if new dates for the tournament were announced.

But the 21-day lockdown which was declared by the Indian government to combat the spread of coronavirus infection has pushed the future of IPL 2020 into darkness. A senior official from the BCCI had said, the tournament most likely would get canceled. As even the lockdown would be lifted, there would be a lot of restrictions imposed upon a lot of events around, and under those circumstances, it would be difficult to conduct the IPL tournament.
