ICC To Discuss Contingency Plans For T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will discuss the contingency plans for the T20 world cup that is scheduled to go ahead in October and November this year among other things on Thursday, the top governing body said in a statement on Monday.

It also said it will look at ways to resume the cricket action which has come to standstill due to the corona outbreak.

ICC Meeting Through Conference Call To Be Held On Thursday

The global pandemic has disrupted the cricket schedule and poses a threat to the biggest event of T20 cricket supposed to take place later this year in Australia.

The ICC statement announced that the chief executives from all its member countries will hold a meeting through a conference call to review the alternative plans for all the ICC events including the T20 world cup.

“They will… receive an update on the continuing contingency planning for all ICC global events, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020,” the ICC stated.

In the meeting, the ICC would want to know what its member plans about restarting cricket and the conditions required for it with inputs from their governments.

“The purpose of the meeting is to gain a full understanding of Member priorities during this time and to discuss and share the key mitigation factors required to resume international cricket based on government advice in each territory,” the ICC said.

The Fate Of Any Event Will Be Decided At Appropriate Time: ICC

The ICC said that the governments of different countries will reopen their countries at different stages and in different ways and it will respect their decisions.

About staging the ICC events including the Men’s T20 world cup it said it will seek experts’ advice along with advice from the Australian government.

It also added that any decision about the fate of any tournament will be informed at an appropriate time.
