He added “By seeing the dangerous effect of coronavirus all over the world, we have to take care not only our family members or friends but also the whole community. Now lockdown is in full force, and because of this we have realized the upcoming challenges of our cricket community, specifically due to the trust funding suspension.”

“Now, our concentration is on securing the sustainability of New Zealand Cricket in the future.”

On Friday (03-04-2020), the government of New Zealand declared that the yearly funding to national sports organizations for 2020 financial year will go on into 2021 to ensure that those organizations can carry on to operate in the loss from sponsorship, broadcasting and sports betting.

Sports Minister Grant Robertson’s Speech:

Sports Minister Grant Robertson said, “ The spreading of coronavirus in all over the world has a dangerous impact on sports as well as all activities in New Zealand, incorporating the postponement or cancellation of all types of sports starting from professional, grassroots sports to international and the stoppage of community facilities.”

Also, he quoted “ Recreation, sports, and games play a very important role for the well-being and health of our communities and we are doing all possible things to support the sector, both at an elite level and a grassroots into the future.”
