Clarke Says Australians Afraid Of Sledging Kohli Due To IPL Contracts

Everybody Knows How Powerful India Is In Cricket Financially: Clarke

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke said that the current crop of players have sucked up to Kohli because they are afraid that their million-dollar deals in IPL would fall in danger if they did not do so.

This has led to the Australian cricket becoming soft which was not a good sign, said the 2015 World Cup-winning captain.

He believes that every team along with the Australian team have been trying to appease the Indian team as they know how powerful it is financially.

They are afraid of sledging Kohli or other players from India because they know they had to play with them in April he added.

“I feel that Australian cricket, and probably every other team over a little period, went the opposite and actually sucked up to India. They were too scared to sledge Kohli or the other Indian players because they had to play with them in April,” he said.

“Everybody knows how powerful India is in regards to the financial part of the game, internationally or domestically with the IPL.”

He also feels that since a number of Indian star players are captains of IPL teams the Australians did not want to hurt them.

“I Can Make $1 million US If I Don’t Sledge Kohli”

“Name a list of ten players and they are bidding for these Australian players to get into their IPL team,” he said.

“The players were like: “I’m not going to sledge Kohli, I want him to pick me for Bangalore so I can make my $1 million US for my six weeks.”

This tendency in the Australian players has not allowed them to be ruthless and assertive which were the main characteristics of the Australian team for decades.

“I feel like that’s where Australia went through that little phase where our cricket become a little bit softer or not as hard as we’re accustomed to seeing,” he said further.
